Preparing Your Life for Evangelism
Week 6, Sunday July 12th

Theme for this Sunday: The Power of the Gospel

Passage for Sunday: 2Cor 5:17-20 + 1Cor 1:17-24

When we think about the power of God at work in Acts, often we focus on the work of Holy Spirit, which takes centre stage, and miss the other side of God’s power - the gospel message. Paul reminded the Corinthian church that although the culture of the day considered the gospel to be foolish, the message of Christ crucified is vehicle through which God transmits his wisdom. The gospel is a message of reconciliation, an invitation to end our estrangement with God forever by His grace through faith in Christ, and be forgiven for all our sins past, present, and future.

So it was the power of the Spirit and the power of the Gospel message at work together in Acts 2 the was able to touch so many hearts and transform so many lives. God has given every Christian the responsibility to share and proclaim God’s call to be reconciled through the power of the Holy Spirit to anyone we have an opportunity to do so.

  • What was Paul’s central message to the intellectual Greeks at Corinth (1Cor 1:17-24 )?
  • How did Paul communicate the gospel (I Cor 2:1-5)?
  • What is God’s messenger called to do and what are they supposed to talk about (2Cor 5:17-20)?
